Course Outline

Week #1Introductions and beginning the process.
This is a quick introduction and share about the sanding process as well as my journey through it. A demonstration on how to “rip the paper” both from larger sheets and a roll as well as how to hang the paper using a level. I also demo how to create the individual sandpapers and how to properly break them down into burnishers. The work is focused around the initial sanding process with a bit of troubleshooting associated with that. I watch each participant sand to ensure proper form. Halfway through I explain the dot / point method process using photo reference.

Week #2Starting the drawing.
I demonstrate how to use the dots to begin laying down the first charcoal pass of the drawing and the initial sanding of the drawing.

Week #3Moving toward a finished drawing.
I continue to demonstrate the different techniques including smooth transitions and trouble spots.

Week #4Final adjustments.
I demonstrate reference point erasure and spraying, class critique, as well as a Q&A.

This intro class is a required prerequisite to taking any of the advanced classes that are offered.
